Hip pain can show up in the groin, the outside of the hip, the buttock or the front of the thigh. It can make walking, climbing stairs, running and sleeping on your side uncomfortable. Because the hip, pelvis and lower back work as a unit, Dr. Joe checks all three.
Hip problems we see
- Pain on the outside of the hip, often called hip bursitis
- Tight, painful hip flexors from sitting or running
- Pelvis and SI joint problems that feel like hip pain
- Stiff hips that limit squatting, lunging or your golf swing
- Hip pain that comes from the lower back
How Dr. Joe helps
- Hip joint adjusting, part of his extremity work
- Pelvis, SI joint and lower back adjustments
- Drop-table adjusting for precise pelvic adjustments
- Soft tissue work for the glutes, hip flexors and outer thigh
When to see a medical doctor first
Get medical care right away after a fall if you can't put weight on the leg or the leg looks shortened or turned out, or if the hip is hot and swollen with a fever. Constant groin pain, or hip pain at night that doesn't change with movement, should also be checked by a doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Can hip pain come from my back?
Yes. The lower back and SI joints often refer pain to the hip and buttock. Dr. Joe tests both to find the source.
Do you help runners with hip pain?
Yes. See running injuries.
I have hip arthritis. Can chiropractic help?
Care can help the hip and the joints around it move more comfortably. Advanced arthritis may also need an orthopedic evaluation.
