Your feet carry your whole body, and a stiff or injured ankle changes how your knees, hips and back move. Foot and ankle adjusting is something Dr. Joe is known for. One patient wrote that Dr. Joe helped with an ankle injury "better than any chiropractor or physical therapist could."
Foot and ankle problems we see
- Ankle sprains, including old sprains that never felt right
- Stiff ankles that limit squatting or running
- Pain on the bottom of the foot, including plantar fasciitis
- Pain in the top or arch of the foot
- Foot and ankle problems from running, hiking or court sports
How Dr. Joe helps
The foot and ankle have dozens of small joints. When some stop moving well, others take extra strain. Dr. Joe checks each one and may use:
- Hands-on adjustments to the ankle and the joints of the foot
- Activator and Arthrostim instrument adjusting for small, sensitive joints
- Soft tissue work for the calf, Achilles area and arch
- Knee, hip and lower back adjustments when your walking pattern has changed
When to see a medical doctor first
Get an X-ray first if you couldn't take four steps right after an ankle injury, or if the bony points of the ankle or the outside edge of the foot are tender to touch. See a doctor right away for a foot that's cold, pale or numb, a calf that's swollen, warm and tender, or signs of infection. If you have diabetes, have any new foot problem checked by your doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Can a chiropractor help an old ankle sprain?
Often, yes. Sprains can leave the joints of the ankle and foot stiff long after the swelling is gone. Adjusting those joints is a big part of Dr. Joe's extremity work.
Do you work on kids' and athletes' feet?
Yes. We see athletes of all ages and kids ages 2 and up. See sports chiropractic.
How many visits does an ankle need?
It depends on how recent the injury is and how stiff the joints are. Dr. Joe will give you an honest estimate after your exam.
