A stiff, sore neck makes it hard to drive, sleep or look at a screen. Neck pain is one of the most common problems chiropractors treat, and it often travels with tension headaches and tight shoulders.
Common causes of neck pain
- Looking down at phones and laptops for hours
- Sleeping in an awkward position
- Stress that settles into the shoulders and upper back
- Stiff joints in the neck and upper back
- Old injuries and wear-and-tear changes
How Dr. Joe helps
Dr. Joe checks how your neck moves in every direction and how your upper back and shoulders work with it. Neck adjustments are precise and controlled, and he'll explain each one before he does it. Care may include:
- Hands-on adjustments to the neck and upper back
- Activator or Arthrostim instrument adjusting if you'd rather not have your neck adjusted by hand
- Soft tissue work and Vibracussor for tight neck and shoulder muscles
- Mid back adjustments, which often take pressure off the neck
When to see a medical doctor first
Get emergency care if neck pain comes with a sudden severe headache, trouble speaking or swallowing, vision changes, dizziness with numbness in the face, or new weakness in an arm. If you've recently been in a car accident or had neck surgery, see your medical provider before starting chiropractic care.
